How Garden Landscapers Can Use Garden Decking to Make Your Green Spaces Great

Great gardens let you enjoy your open spaces without having to do too much work. Garden landscapers can direct and control your green spaces so you can get maximum enjoyment from them without having to put in too much work in your precious spare time when frankly you would be much happier sitting around reading the newspaper and drinking a nice glass of Chardonnay!

Garden decking is a great way to add an easy-to-maintain, natural look ambience to your outside spaces. Decking is made of wood, so it feels natural and looks right. Its usually raised, so you have an unimpeded view of the rest of your garden. And because its treated for weather and microbe exposure it pretty much looks after itself all you need to do is sweep or pressure hose it every now and again and have it re-treated once a year.

Garden landscapers can fit your garden decking into an overall scheme designed to create a perfect haven, where you can relax and watch the world go by or entertain your friends, perhaps, with an al fresco dinner party. To create a place like this your landscapers will look at the overall area of your outside space, the access to and from the house and the view you and your guests will enjoy while using your decking. In some cases it makes more sense to put the garden decking off the back of the house (effectively making a sort of wooden patio); in others, its better for your garden landscapers to create a freestanding decking area at the other end of your garden, where it is completely surrounded by greenery and plants.

The actual anatomy of your decking installation is up to you, defined as ever by desires and budget. A straightforward garden decking installation is simply a wooden area on which you can sit, or place garden furniture. At the other end of the spectrum your garden landscapers can create an outdoor Jacuzzi bath complete with plants in pots and a changing area. Your imagination and the size of your wallet is all that separates you from relaxing under the stars with a bottle of bubbly, a loved one and a luxurious steaming bath.

One great simple tip to make your garden decking area exotic is to have earth beds underneath it, with Hawaiian style outdoor torches staked into it. The safe flaming torches or garden candles can be incorporated into your garden landscapers plans, or you can add them yourself once the garden decking installation is complete.

With precious leisure time at more of a premium than ever before, your free hours should be spent in total relaxation. With a decking installation, you can enjoy the weather and the greenery whenever you like.

How to Prevent Skin Rashes from Garden Plants

Sarah pushed the tops of her tomato plants apart again, gripping one of the random shoots that sprung off the plant with her bare hands. She pulled it off, then moved to another crowded plant top. As she discarded the removed piece of tomato plant, she noticed yet again the patch of tiny, red dots that had been growing on the back of her right hand. She continued to ignore it, finding other parts of the carefully tended tomato plant that needed removed for the good of the entire vine.

Ever since Sarah had started her garden earlier this spring, her hands had been plagued with these tiny, itchy red welts. She had been mostly ignoring them, hoping that the rashes would just go away, but as the weeks progressed and her garden grew bigger, these annoying rashes did nothing but spread and repopulate themselves. It looked as if a flea colony had taken up residence on her hands, and refused to bite her anywhere else.

Frustrated at the symptoms, Sarah stopped to scratch the unending itch on the back of her right hand before she plucked another young vine from the end of her tomato plant. She knew that these suckers, as they were called, needed to be removed while they were young in order to keep the nutrients in the main vine of the plant. This would make her tomatoes grow large. Her gardening app had taught her this much, but most of growing her first garden had been a mix of transferring knowledge from one type of plant to the other.

Now, with her young garden plants coming up in what was promising to be a harvest that even her grandmother would be proud of, Sarah wished that she had someone with experience to guide her through the little details that the apps all seemed to overlook. She lifted one of the dangling parts of her tomato plant and grabbed a bit of string from the pocket of her faded jeans. She tied this fallen branch of the tomato plant up and onto the wire rack that she had bought for this purpose.

Unexpected Help

While her back was turned, Sarah her a familiar cry. She rose from her garden plants and turned to see who was calling her. Amanda, her neighbor, came around the corner of the garage and smiled as she greeted her friend.
“So, how’s the garden going?” Amanda asked as she looked over the various garden plants that Sarah had been working so hard on producing.

“Pretty good,” Sarah answered. She pulled another string from her pocket and tied up yet another branch of the tomato plants while she spoke, “My onions all came up nicely, and my peppers are looking wonderful. I’m about to go to war with this tomato plant, though.”

Amanda frowned, noticing the rashes on Sarah’s hands while her friend worked, “What happened to your hands?”

“I’m not sure,” Sarah answered, pausing in her work to show the rashes off to her friend, “They’ve been like this ever since I started my garden.”

Amanda gave Sarah a funny look, “Did you ever consider that you might be allergic to one of your garden plants?”

Sarah returned the strange look, then glanced to her own hands, “But, I’m not allergic to any of the foods I’m growing.”

“You don’t have to be,” Amanda said, “The sap of the garden plants, for lack of a better way of putting it, is different from the vegetables that grow. Get yourself a pair of gardening gloves and wear them while you’re working in the garden from now on. I bet that will heal those rashes right up.”

Sarah smiled, “I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks, Amanda. I’ll go get myself a pair right now.” She turned toward her home then, and ducked inside to grab her purse and her keys. Any idea was worth trying at this point, to make her hands stop their incessant itching.

Things that You Need to Consider When Buying Gardens Sheds.

It is natural to get anxious when you start noticing your things such as lawn equipment and holiday decorations piled up in the house or your garage because you lack enough room for storage. The best solution is to purchase a garden shed, but remember there are various things you need to consider before carrying out any purchase. They include the following.

1. The volume of the shed.
It might be ideal to get the largest garden shed available because you can never run out of things to store. However, your backyards size and the amount you are willing to part with are the true determinants of the size of the garden shed you can obtain.

2. Garden shed designs.
Whichever material kit you purchase, you will have to select from a variety of designs. Having your taste in mind and the design of your building will help in the choice you make.

3. The placement.
The best spot is the one closest to your house especially if you want to use it as your workshop. Other factors that come to play include the suns position and a dry, free drainage area with easy door entry. You can place the shed under a tree or next to a taller building, away from direct sunlight and remember to leave room for the easy opening and shutting of the sheds door.

4.Building codes.
Typically, garden sheds do not require building permits if the floor area is below 10 meters square and not exceeding the sheds height boundary. If you happen to exceed these limitations, you will be required to register for a building permit.

5. Understructure and flooring.
After identifying the placement location for your garden shed, the next thing is to contemplate where its going to be set. There are various selections of the base such as concrete slab, pavers placed on top of a leveled sand bed or concrete blocks and wooden struts placed on top of flattened gravel or steel foundation. It is important that your garden shed is fastened to a firm, even foundation to avert the frame from bending and warping. Also, the higher it is from the ground, the more secure it is from rain water.

6. Preservation.
Ensure the shed you purchase is long lasting. You can impede soil dampness from rising into the shed via the floor by fixing vapor barriers beneath your foundation and polythene sheeting is the perfect material for this.

7. Materials.
It all comes down to your personal preferences and what you intend to use the garden shed for. Theres a variety of garden sheds made from different materials such as timber, metal and plastic. You just have to select the one that best suits your requirements.

8. Price and quality.
The best quality sheds are often costly therefore if you are ready to part with whatever amount of cash in order to acquire the best quality shed then go for it.

9.Landscape.
Your surrounding is important when selecting your ideal garden shed. Garden sheds are not simply functional items. Aside from their utility, the outdoor appearance of garden sheds influences the general appearance of your home. Therefore, the design of the shed should complement your home.

10. The garden shed use.
What you plan to use the garden shed for is also important to selecting your preferred garden shed. Some sheds have dual doors ideal for storing bulky items such as lawn mowers. Also consider the height if you are planning to incorporate shelves on the interior.

Garden sheds are great for creating extra space to store all your equipment and facilities. But before you purchase one think of all the above factors so that you select a garden shed that meets your entire requirements.

The most soothing place in the house is the backyard because of plantation and beautiful flowers. Moreover, water elements also help bring life to a backyard. Bridges not only enhance the beauty of such features, they add accessibility. To adorn the look of the backyard, many people think of landscaping. Some consider it to be a tiresome job to add more elegance to the already treasured garden. However, there are a few individuals who just love to change the backyard dcor, perhaps by considering including a water piece, such as a man made stream or pond. This idea is commonly installed for its peace and serenity feel in modern back yards. Dont you think there is a necessity to introduce another special idea that might transform the entire area into a truly spectacular place to spend time in? You should try and install garden bridges.

Do not consider these bridges as an overpass area for the motorists to use. It is not a short cut to walk out of the house through the back door. Garden Of Life Raw Meal Plan For A Quick And Balanced Diet

With a society such as ours, where we seem to be on the go from one place to another, it can be hard to find a quick fulfilling meal. Many people often run to fast food places of business to satisfy their appetite. Fast food does not offer the essential nutrients we need though. With Garden of Life Garden of Life RAW Meal plan, an individual can eat quickly without sacrificing nutrition.
Most people do not realize that quite a lot of the food available in our society is not only devoid of nutrients, but it is filled with toxins. This is why there is a movement of companies to go organic. While organic food is good, RAW food is even better. Organic will have a lot of the essential good stuff our bodies need, but RAW food possesses not only the goods, but also the cleaning agents like probiotics.
Everyone can benefit from the immense amount of nutritional support found in RAW Meal. Because of its nature, those on a vegetarian or vegan diet can partake in this healthy meal. In addition, those who are gluten, dairy, or lactose free can feel safe eating this product. It has none of the bad things found in most other foods like synthetic nutrients that do not really add any nutrients.
This nutrient rich meal will most likely even fill a stomach that others have described as bottomless. The myth of a bottomless stomach originates from unhealthy food that lacks nutrients. A person normally becomes hungry when his or her body is in need of nutrients to stay energized. Therefore, when we put food that lacks nutrients into our stomachs, we need a lot more food to feel full.
Often, with this nutrient lacking food, we do not feel energized, but actually very tired. This seems quite counterproductive. Our bodies need to eat food to be energized, but when we eat food without nutrients, we feel very tired. A protein supplement will help avoid this difficulty because the goods found in this kind of food acts as a solid source of energy.
It may seem strange that a meal replacement product would not only just hold the body over until a meal is able to be had, but that it often times offers more nutritional benefits than the meal will. With 26 superfoods, 33 grams of protein, and 14 grams of fiber, an individual cannot lose. These all work together to fill the body with a healthy energy.
A meal is often one of the things we, as individuals, look forward to during the day. It is a time to break, a time to fill our stomachs with good things that make us feel full and warm. However, sometimes the things our brains are looking forward to, our bodies are not looking forward to, like foods packed with unhealthy additives. We should let our bodies enjoy meals too, by giving our bodies the nutrients they need.

Building a Night Garden

The week before last I was lucky enough to attend Custom Houses Grand Designs convention, wherein over a thousand different exhibitors displayed a range of new products, techniques and disciplines, applicable not only to interior design and decoration but also (on a smaller scale) to horticulture and outdoor decoration.

In this regard, the overall focus largely fell to the advertisement of commercial ventures such outdoor furniture (which will be covered in our next segment) or ecological building alternatives, but there was one exhibit that struck me as particularly unique – that of a night based garden.

The impetus of the design lay in the philosophy that due to the hectic lifestyle required to support a grand outdoor space, many of us dont get the choice to enjoy our garden during the daytime-ironic no? So, The 24 Hour Garden, as it was so aptly named, was built with not only its lit aesthetic in mind, but also the applications it might promise after hours, particularly those of hosting and catering.

It seemed a topic not oft discussed in conventional garden design, so I wanted to set aside some column inches to suggest how one might go about building your own space whose usefulness is complete, regardless of whether the clock reads lunchtime or late-o-clock.

Lighting

Despite the night garden being traditionally a dimmed place, lighting is an essential component to make the space both useable in the summer months, and visually accessible in the winter, however, like the palette you choose for your planting, lighting is, at best, a subtle art, meaning that although it is a characteristic of the day time there is no need for yours to be reminiscent of blazing sunshine. Indeed, as any photographer will tell you, the nightscape provides lighting opportunities not available when sunlight is abundant – hence the attraction of black and white celluloid where the light becomes a means of punctuation rather than the prose itself. The beauty of modern lighting is the variety of different forms it comes in: stairway lighting, underwater illumination, overhead down-lighters or vertical up-lighters, not to mention those concealed within the plants themselves. This latter is a popular option as it helps negate the tone of artificiality that the plastics and metals of a lighting system evoke. The underwater light is also a marvellous addition to the night garden which, while not particularly functional, gives an access to view any wildlife inhabiting your ponds you might not otherwise be privy to.

However, the likely motivation for building or adapting a night garden is so you have the means and the place to entertain and to relax afterhours and to this end I would also recommend, either recessed walkover floor lighting, or focal point spot lighting rather than harsh floodlighting as is so often seen in gardens. Floor lighting is a softer option and will not threaten any trip hazard in the twilight, particularly with the use of frosted lenses, while spotlighting will lend a glamorous red-carpet feel to not only the garden but to any tree canopies above it too.

Expanding your Horizons – Tricks to Make your Garden Look Bigger!

While an experienced gardener will have a knack for best taking advantage of the space theyve got, for example with the correct balance of small to large plants or how their borders are positioned, there is one magic trick none of us can perform and that is expanding the space itself. Of course, if Harry Houdini were here hed tell you the key to a good illusion is the mirrors, not the elephant. So as youve probably guessed, todays article concerns means of giving the appearance of a larger garden than youre actually possessed of.

Starting at ground level, we have the lines and shapes of a garden – specifically sectioned areas like lawns or paving. Due to the rectangular shape of many suburban gardens and box like connotations that geometric shapes invoke, it is often best to use fluid shapes such as circles or ovals when shaping your lawn. They not only disguise the boundaries but can also make a garden appear much wider. This can also apply to the paving that surrounds said lawns, as too many straight lines make the spaces seem constricted and unnatural. On that note, if youve a small garden, try to avoid large paving slabs as these tend to overpower the more delicate elements of a garden and, by using smaller pieces, youll be able to implement a random paved technique that no doubt will be more pleasing to the eye.

Apart from your open spaces, careful planning concerning your planting scheme is also essential to enlarging the garden as a whole. Remember the basic principle of all interior designers: lighter equals larger, while darkness means confinement. As such, your deeper toned flowers should be centralized to your borders and surrounded by lighter flowers that will relieve their oppressive connotations. Whilst surrounding the back door with crimson blooms, for example, can present an image of warmth that will be associated with the building itself, it can confine the observer, with the brighter colours fighting for your attention. Aim for lighter colours in your beds to match the greatest space you can manipulate, the sky above them. Aside from colour you should also consider the textures of your plants, finely textured plants like Rosemary will reflect light differently than the heavy foliage of a Laurel, which means that careful layering can add depth to your garden, while heavy handedness can make it look flat. Finally, you have the size of your plants which will vary depending on the type of garden youre aiming for. Simply put, bigger is better, thousands of tiny shrubs and flower heads make a garden look cluttered, whereas a bold structural scheme can attest to the size of their environment. Then theres the vertical approach – as vertical stripes make a dress seem longer, so do tall trees add a height to your garden that, even if you cant touch it, you can imagine it.

While on the subject of vertical gardening, it is important to note the value of structures like archways and pergolas. Similarly to the telescopic effect of putting your eye to a pin hole, a long corridor like this can give the illusion of length particularly if entwined with vibrant hanging flowers. There are also various perspective arches on the market which have the same effect. A garden can also be made to look longer by constructing paths that narrow in width as they progress down the plot.

Finally we have the oldest trick in the book, and one that brings us back to Mr. Houdini – mirrors. Reflective glass has been used by designers since time immemorial to double or triple the size of a room and theres no reason not to apply this beyond the home, and into the garden. Most effective when placed facing an open space such as a lawn or a pretty planting scheme, but not so as to immediately reflect the viewer as they approach, they can give the illusion of another inviting garden beyond. Their illusion can be strengthened by the addition of a view of moving water that will lend the image fluidity.

What Is Solar Garden Lighting

For the last few years, there has been a lot of debate going on regarding energy conservation all around the world. Every day you keep hearing about the new ways in which energy can be saved and what alternative sources of energy we have. There are many researches, which are being undertaken to discover alternative energy sources. One of the most popular concepts, which have been adopted in most parts of the world, even though it is on a small scale at present, is the solar energy.

The developed countries are using solar energy for different purposes nowadays. They have switched some of their appliances to solar energy from electricity. Similarly, appliances are also being designed to be run on solar energy; therefore, you can now find solar garden lighting in the market as well. One thing that you need to remember is that the solar panels of these lights must remain fully exposed during the day so that they can get fully charged. You must remember that these panels store energy from the sunlight, and provide it to the lights to which they are connected. If they are not properly exposed during day then they will not be able to store any energy.

Add Impact to Your Landscape and Garden Design with Statues

St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, is a familiar Catholic religious statue that is commonly seen in dozens of locations throughout most communities. Not only do many property owners buy St. Francis bird baths and bird feeders to dress up their gardens, but Saint Francis statues can also be spotted in church courtyards, religious schools, and hospitals. Maybe it’s the kindly and gentle image that St. Francis projects that makes him such a universally appealing image to display. As a religious statue, its message of honoring nature and all its creatures is one to which many people can relate, even if they’re not particularly religious.

Large Saint Francis statues are available in a variety of sizes, materials, and finishes. Through the use of different processes, sculpture studios that create St. Francis statues, and figurines can achieve a number of interesting effects. One 24-inch statuette that’s available uses a green tincture to mimic the appearance of aging copper. Another approach to creating an antiqued look on a statue is by painting it in Sorrento Sandstone. There’s a 24.5-inch St. Francis bird feeder for sale that uses that exact technique. If you’re looking for garden statues that will add some visual interest to your landscape design, another one to consider is a 33-inch St. Francis sculpture made of stained cast stone. It’s somewhat of a clay color, which darkens and changes tone when it gets wet.

Statues of St. Francis are also made of other materials, including resin stone mix, cast brass with a bronze finish, painted cast stone, and fiberglass. Do-it-yourself landscapers and gardeners will like a 48-inch fiberglass St. Francis statue holding a basket that can be purchased over the Internet. The basket makes an attractive flower pot or plant container. A 32-inch Saint Francis bird feeder cast from a wood carving is another religious statue that would complement a backyard, church, or memorial garden.

Another unique St. Francis of Assisi garden statue is a 42-inch Saint Francis water fountain made of relic barro stained cast stone. The statue pumps 180 gallons of water per hour and shows subtle color changes after it rains.

An unusual custom that has its roots in folk lore, is the practice of burying a figurine of St. Joseph in one’s yard, upside down, to supposedly speed up the sale of a residential property. When the home does sell, the (former) owner then digs up the figurine and displays it in their new home. There’s actually a kit on the market created with that use in mind. It consists of a 4.5-inch figurine of Saint Joseph holding a baby in one arm and a bouquet of flowers in the other. The miniature St. Joseph sculpture includes information on this unique custom and directions for its use.

Other popular Catholic religious statues that can be purchased for home or public display include statues of Jesus, Good Shepherd statues, guardian angels, and Madonna statues, also called Our Lady of Grace, Mother Mary, and Lady of Guadalupe.

Joel Sussman is an Internet marketing specialist with Mountain Media, an e-commerce development and hosting company in Saratoga Springs, NY. Among the firm’s clients is Saint Francis Garden.com, an online store featuring religious garden statues.
